Family gathering planning: lack of interest

Hi Jack,

As you can see, postings here on this blog regarding the trial balloon for a possible family gathering sent up this past summer have all but stopped.  Maybe the best way to leave it is to ask you to keep me updated as to what your plans are regarding travel to the southern California during 2013. 

Probably will leave this blog site up for awhile but if posting activity stays at this low level, those that are interested can email me so we can keep some kind of contact going.

Was not really planning on posting anything, but then saw Henry's note about the Blog not being used that much, so thought I would give you an update. I am in the process of making plans so that my annual trip to the US will allow me to get to the reunion. As I understand, it is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend somewhere in Southern California. Please let me know if this information is out-of-date. Thanks.

Hi Dia,

Thanks for your blog post!  The original intent of this blog was for one main purpose, and that is to stir up interest in a family gathering in 2013  AND as part of that, to get people to join in to plan and organize it. Therefore, I would be reluctant to recommend that we start using it for a continuation of the dormant Bert***  (don't worry, I put the stars there)  website that cousin Bruce so lovingly created.  However, if others want to expand it's purpose, they should speak up.   

As you can see, the blog posts have been very sparse (an understatement) for who knows what reasons. I can only guess that some are reluctant to speak up, some don't want to bother, some are just curmudgeons and others could be waiting for someone else to say something.   If the posts trail off to nothing for long periods of time, why keep it going?

DOES ANYONE KNOW how we can enter pictures and information on our families in the Bertram and Abramavichi family site? Some of us need/want to post pictures of our parents, ourselves, our children, et al. This is the family history website that someone was working on then stopped. Who has access and how can I add to the information, photos, etc....? Thanks everyone!

The Bertram Family Reunion (or is it a Gathering?)  blog is back.  If you can read this, you too can gain access to this blog by creating a GMail account.  Look up at the top right corner and then sign up to create an account.  Getting a Gmail account is easy and free. I had to create one to be part of this blog too.  No, I don't get paid by GMail to get people to sign up.

Blog Access Difficulties.    A few people have emailed me to report that they can't log onto this blog.  Since the blog's designer is out of town, the problem will be addressed after he returns home later today.  

Memorial weekend sounds fine to us. Is there a pavillion or place at a park we can reserve? Saturday and/or Sunday events would be fine.

Proposed Family Gathering in 2013

Like some of you, I too am learning about blogs as I go. So bear with me.

Here are some new variables affecting choice of weekend in 2013: 
 
1. Henry S. reports that he can't make it the 1st weekend in June, or one of the weekends in October. 
2. Suzanne reports that she can not make it on any of the other weekends in June. She has suggested Memorial Day weekend.

General Discussion - Need input from everyone please...

Question #1:  Can others make it during Memorial Day Weekend?  If so, which day is best?  Saturday, May 25 or Sunday, May 26, 2013.  (May 27 is Memorial Day)

Question #2:  Where shall we have the gathering?  We need people familiar with L.A.'s current offerings to step up and suggest possible locations.  If we do select Memorial Day weekend, it could be somewhat more challenging to get a good spot. 

Question #3:  Who is invited?    Start with Bertram/Wilder clan?  Plus spouses and close relatives by marriage of course.  So far, emails about a proposed family gathering have gone out to grandchildren of Jack and Anna Bertram as well as many of their offspring. In addition, other close family members for whom email addresses are known have been sent emails.  

Question #4:  How will food and beverages be provided?    

Question #5:  Should there be a genealogy table where people can learn more about the family tree?

Thanks for setting this up. I have been a resident of Adi Da Samrajashram, otherwise known as the Island of Naitauba, Fiji, since 2006. I usually get to the US once a year to visit family and get my annual medical exams. With a little luck, I will see you all in June!

Just testing to see where this goes...btw, Fiji sounds great!
